What 'floating' means here
Small accent diamonds — often marquise-cut — are set with minimal visible metal around them, so they appear to hover just above or beside the band rather than being fully embedded in it.
It adds movement without adding bulk
Unlike a full pavé band, floating accents add sparkle and visual interest in a few precise points rather than continuously — a lighter, more playful look that still reads as detailed and intentional.
Works especially well with a solitaire center
Because the accents are set apart from the center stone, this style pairs naturally with a clean solitaire or simple halo center, adding personality without competing with the main stone.
